Top Australian Artists Go Under the Hammer for Type 1 Diabetes
More than 30 paintings by some of Australia’s leading artists will be auctioned on 6 December to raise money for research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
Artists like David Larwill, Tim Storrier and Sally Smart have created special artworks for the 6 December auction at Mossgreen in Toorak, with hopes of raising $100,000.
Auction organizer and artist Mary Schepisi, wife of film director Fred, was inspired to organise the event in conjunction with JDRF after a friend’s child was diagnosed with the disease.
“My friend lives in constant fear that her six-year-old son will fall into a coma if his blood sugar drops too low. It is devastating to all their lives.”
“Some of the artists, such as Archibald winner Adam Cullen, have diabetes themselves. Others, like Jan Senbergs whose granddaughter has type 1 diabetes, understand that a cure is desperately needed for this lifelong disease.”

CEO of JDRF Mike Wilson said, “The funds raised by this wonderful auction will deliver essential support for local research into type 1 diabetes, because we need to find that cure fast.”
“Australia has one of the highest rates of type 1 diabetes in the world and the rate of new cases in children in this country is rising by 3% every year. This situation is urgent.”
