My daughter is 15 and has had type 1 diabetes since she was 11. We went through some bad times when first diagnosed using needles. The pain and the discomfort was very upsetting for her and us. I wished I could of taken the type 1 diabetes from her and given it to me instead. My daughter found out about the pump all by herself on the internet and came to us for advice about it. Luckily our health fund was great and paid outright for the pump and our daughter's life ws made easier. She is so much happier on the pump, well as happy as you can be having type 1 diabetes and wearing a device everyday when you are 15 years old. In summer is the hardest when your daughter wants to wear less clothing and swimwear.
We still have days where she can get upset and wants to know, why me! She is hoping that there will be a cure in the near future. As a parent you worry about them now and hope their future is a bright one and with no complications. We love you so much Chloe x

I see no need for my parenting skills to be questioned. My daughter's Specialist, Educators, and GP are all amazed at how well adjusted she is. You'd be hard pressed to find a happier little girl. My views on a *cure* are my own.

Hi Anna I have been Type 1 for 42yrs back then I had to boil glass syringes to sterilise them, have my needles resharpened at clinic and test my urine with clinitest tablets. Now as I said I have a pump which has improved my control no end, very soon my 8yr old daughter will have one or one of the new pods from the US and yes we do still hope that yes in her lifetime there WILL be a cure.As you and your fellow cynic Matt can tell by all the comments the rest of us do believe there will be a cure one day.God knows how your daughter is going to cope with her condition if these are the views you express to her,she has a tough enough job as it is.

The last time I checked, this was a free country, where people are allowed to have an opinion. I agree with Matt, and personally, I won't be patting anyone on the back until the day comes that my daughter can throw her pump in the bin and say that she no longer has Diabetes.

Call me a cynic, but I highly doubt we will ever see a 'cure' for Diabetes. Sure, we may see a pump that is so sophisticated that you no longer need to fingerprick or inject/bolus, and that will be called a cure.... but an actual real cure? I wish, but I don't think so. Gee, what would happen to all those companies that make all the Diabetes related products if no-one had Diabetes anymore. I'm sure they're praying for a cure. Right.

Hi Amanda,I have been on a pump for 5yrs and my Hba1c went from 9.5 down to 6.4 in just 3mths.Don`t know if it stops, repairs or reverses the damage but it sure helps in the long term complications.Pumps are free if you have private health insurance I have Medibank Private and it cost me nothing. Please contact Medtronic as they are the best around for pumps as well as the CGSM which you are talking about. It costs a bit to run but it does close the circuit so to speak.Their number is 1800668670 they can and will help you.PLEASE call them
               Good luck,Francis

Hi,
just wondering if this is out yet and how to get it. My bf has type 1 diabetes and has developed some neuropathy complications since. Can anyone answer me some questions please if they know the answers?
First, does the pump stop, slow down or reverse the damage neuropathy has caused?
And how much does it cost? He is currently on a 5 yr pancreas transplant waiting list but he is going downhill very fast..
Pls email me as I might lose this site... sesesito@hotmail.com

Hey Matt are you type 1, by the sounds of it no.If you were you would realise the benefits of a pump.Don`t be so cynical because this IS a major step forward in the treatment and reduction of long term problems associated with this disease. So please back of your comments and hey so what if it needs calibration is that too difficult for someone with an intellect such as yours?
