Identify your
Federal and State Member of Parliament or Senator. Click here for websites to help you identify your local politicians.

Fill in the
'Registration Form' (you can fill this in online or print a copy of the
form and fill it in) to express your interest in organising and attending a meeting with
your Members/Senators. We will then send you a kit containing all
the tools you need for a successful campaign.
When you become a JDRF Advocate we can automatically sign you
up as a JDRF Youth Ambassador. To learn more about the exciting
activities of JDRF's Youth Ambassadors, click here.

Once you have
received your campaign kit, use the ideas and letter
templates to send an introductory letter to your politician.

Follow up the
letter by calling your politicians electorate office and asking
for their diary secretary. Introduce yourself to the relevant member
of staff. Tell him/her about JDRF and explain that you would like
to make an appointment to meet with your Member.

Attend the meeting.
Be sure to:
- Take your
camera.
- Attach a
family photo to the 'Leave Behind' card. This card is included
in the Promise to Remember Me Campaign kit. If you do not have
a copy, email us at promise@jdrf.org,au.
- Take the
'Talking Points' card (also in your campaign kit).
- Tell your
story about diabetes and ask the politician to "promise to
remember you" when making decisions related to diabetes research.
- Take a photograph
of all the meeting attendees with your politician. (Only one picture
of each meeting can be included on the website, so make sure you
get everyone in one shot.)

It is important
to tell JDRF about your meeting as soon as possible:
- Fill in the
'Photo and Meeting Information' Form' (you can fill this in online or print a copy of the form and fill it in).
- Send the
form, with your photographs, to promise@jdrf.org.au or mail to
JDRF, PO Box 183, St Leonards NSW 1590.
This is to make
sure we have all the information about your meeting.
Send your politician
a thank you note!
Within a week
of your meeting, please send a note thanking the politician for
the meeting, restating your relation to diabetes, and asking for
support of increased funding for type 1 diabetes research.
Check out the
picture of your meeting and your testimonials, and keep track of
the campaign’s progress by visiting
the Campaign Status section of
the website.
