Islet Transplantation Program

Goal

The JDRF Islet Transplantation Program (ITP) in Australia has been established to help move islet transplantation from being an experimental procedure to a more widely available clinical option for people with diabetes.

Objectives

The objectives of the ITP are to:

  • Establish, coordinate and manage a clinical program to perform a number of islet transplant procedures to demonstrate efficacy and comparability with international activities.
  • Establish and manage an Australian basic research program in support of improved clinical islet transplantations outcomes.
  • Integrate and profile Australia as an integral and active part of a global consortium of islet transplant centres.

Funding and Management

The Islet Transplantation Program in Australia is funded by the Australian Department of Health and Ageing and managed by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
