JDRF/MGF Future Research Leaders Program

FRLP pilot

Application Form

Please read the Request for Applications (RFA) which includes the Application Form for further details on this program.

Background

There is an urgent need to nurture the best and brightest early-mid career researchers (EMCRs) to ensure the sustainability and innovation of type 1 diabetes health and medical research into the future. In the face of an increasingly complex health and medical research sector, EMCRs face many hurdles to advance their careers as research leaders and drive innovation in their field.

JDRF Australia recognises the need to arm the next generation of leaders with strategies to successfully progress innovative research all the way from the laboratory through to the end-user. This need is not unique to the field of type 1 diabetes, but the whole medical research sector.

In response to this need, JDRF has designed a globally unique “Future Research Leaders Program”, principally supported by the Macquarie Group Foundation, that is specially tailored to develop leadership potential with the aim to improve “first own” funding success for emerging research leaders in the field of type 1 diabetes. Participants will be paired with a senior mentor in the field to aid in career planning and application writing. JDRF has engaged experts in the design and delivery of this Program, and expect that by the end of this 12 month Program, participants will have the tools needed to broaden the reach, relevance and impact of their research.

Eligibility

JDRF Australia are seeking applications from emerging research leaders in type 1 diabetes, who are Early-Mid Career Researchers (EMCR; within 10 years of PhD or equivalent), up to and including Associate Professor level.

Each application will be assessed on their current research trajectory, potential for research independence and innovation, and future research leadership goals. Applications are welcome from candidates in diverse research disciplines, such as basic laboratory and clinical research, clinician researchers, epidemiology and public health, and allied health.
