JDRF provides a range of services and programs to assist and support the type 1 diabetes community.

KIDSAC is a free backpack for families with a child newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The packs contain valuable information on type 1 diabetes including:

  • Caring for Diabetes in Children and Adults: A Parent's Manual
  • A ‘Rufus' teddy bear for the child to help them learn about injections 
  • A 'Rufus Comes Home' book

t1d kit

The T1D pack is a free new information source specially developed for adults or teenagers newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The stylish t1d satchel contains:

  • 'Straight to the Point' - a comprehensive guidebook for adults with type 1 diabetes written by people who have "been there, done that"
  • Traffic Light Guide for Food - Carb Counting booklet

Straight to the Point Guide to Type 1 Diabetes

Straight to the Point was written by people with type 1 diabetes and health care professionals, for adults and young adults with type 1 diabetes. It includes practical advice on day-to-day life with type 1 diabetes.

The Australian Government's Insulin Pump Program provides subsidies to very low income families who have children with type 1 diabetes. The Program aims to improve access and and affordability of insulin pumps for limited income families who have children (up to 18 years of age) with type 1 diabetes, and do not have access to other means of reimbursement, such as private health insurance.

JDRF Peer Support Program

The JDRF Peer Support Program provides ongoing support to people affected by type 1 diabetes. Through the Program a network of volunteers, hand picked and trained by JDRF, are connected with people who have asked for support.  The volunteers live with type 1 diabetes themselves and are able to give practical help and advice.

JDRF closed facebook groups

JDRF's closed Facebook T1D Connect groups provide a safe, positive space for members of the T1D community to connect, chat, and exchange ideas. There are two moderated age groups to choose from:

Teen toolkit - a management guide for carers of type 1 teens

The Teen Toolkit is a resource produced by JDRF to help carers of type 1 teens assist them in their growth and development throughout the teen years.

JDRF Travel Grants

With the generous support of the Macquarie Group Foundation, JDRF provides grants for researchers, diabetes educators and other allied health and nursing professionals to travel to research institutions or scientific meetings, for the purpose of furthering their expertise in the study of type 1 diabetes.
